Why you can’t meditate?

Many people I train in meditation initially express that they can’t meditate, don’t like it, or find it makes them anxious. I tell them that this is a good sign! It means the meditation is working and that they are doing it correctly. We are conditioned to believe that the body and mind are the same, and this can feel very uncomfortable when you first start meditating.
We have been mentally and physically programmed to focus on doing. Therefore, we need to train ourselves to simply be. In fact, we often find ourselves emotionally and physically addicted to our behaviors—whether it be busyness, anger, overachieving, or fear. The habits we create influence our decisions, thoughts, and beliefs. However, with continued meditation, we learn how to be “without” constantly doing. We become aware of how our body feels, realizing that it is not the same as our mind, and we don’t always need to react to our feelings or thoughts. Additionally, we discover how to manifest our desires into reality.
